“So let’s pretend this all happened”. Let’s pretend our father had AIDS in Disneyland. Let’s pretend our Rush mixtape is playing in the 90s while our child “needed to touch everything” in Liberty Science Center and “my autopsy’s in the sand without witness”. And maybe we don’t need to pretend. Michael Bross brings us there, lets us into his memory and his family and his fantasies; not hiding the hurt or the fear. Vacationland is a powerful work that opens up over and over seeking a way or a place to be a family the right way.

That being said, think of this newsletter as being like a TV show’s first season—finding its footing, understaffed, and the plot will probably all over the place. I may share some new pieces before I fully finish them. I may share musings and ask you to respond and engage. I may just share links sometimes. But one thing I will do my best to be consistent with is the timing of this newsletter—twice per month on Wednesday.
Thanks for joining me for the ride. - Michelle Greco

Get Fresh Books Publishing is a cooperative press and a 501c3 tax exempt organization, where our poets, editors, and the publisher create and pursue a vision for the writer's book. Our poets then bring their unique skills to the table to strengthen our mission.
